Cyclo-Cross International de Pétange (LUX) UCI cat.2, January 1st 2013

Happy new year 2013 to all.

On the first of january I started in the international womens cyclocross in Petange (Lux) on a very difficult and hard course that would better suit mountainbike than cyclocross.

As always the last years, worldchamp Marianne Vos was at start and she dominated the whole female concurrence as well as the junior men, winning more than 2’ in front of the german Marco König, regular racewinner in Luxemburg.

After a nice warmup in a garage of friendly inhabitants of Petange, I took a really good start entering the course on 5th place. But in the steep uphill part after the stairs (shitty ones where you don’t find a rhythm to run) my chain blocked a first time and I lost 3 places, but stayed in contact with the girls in front. In the very steep uphill after the second pits in the wood, my chain blocked completely so that I had to run to the top whereas the others could ride. The rest of that lap, I tried not to force on the chain and changed bike in the pits. Fortunately, the second bike functioned perfectly and I could catch back the swiss mountainbikechampion Sarah Koba and a young czech rider  and was in sight of the german Lisa Beckmann. But I had not the opportunity to catch her back, because at the end of my fourth lap I was passed by the TGV Marianne Vos and  stopped at the line. I must say, first I was disappointed, but at the end I was satisfied by 6th place and happy not to do one more lap on an exhausting course that I dont like at all.

Marianne was simply too strong on that race, finishing 4’40 in front of swiss champion Yasmin Achermann, who finished top ten in most worldcup races this year, and over 6’ before Julie Krasniak one of the leading french riders.

After the fight in the cold mud, my friend Lori gave my face and legs a nice warm wash, so that I was ‘presentable ‘ to get flowers and a kiss from the president of the organizing cycling club as the best luxemburgish rider. Thanks Lori, you are the best !

By the way I want to thank all people who helped me during this season :

My husband Marc for bikecleaning, driving to the races, enduring my moods….

My daughter Trixy and her friend Josselin for their help in Diegem and Petange

My friend Lori for being my ‘soigneur’

My mechanic Philippe for his disponibility to glue new tubes at any moment

The nice inhabitants of Petange who permitted me to use their garage

Our belgian friend Ernst for his help on some international belgian races

Anton, Albert, Edy and Roland for the nice pictures they send me for use on my site

And finally all people that supported and encouraged me on all the races I did this season !

Now I’m really looking forward to the worldcup in Rome. Hopefully the sun will not forget the appointment I made with him there !
