World-Cup Race in Rome (ITA) January 6th 2013

Great weather, historic place, very pleasant course and a lot of italian friends to meet made this race a real pleasure for me!

Training on Saturday was already fabulous, we made an excursion over the via Appia antica on the original roman pavements and met some friends from ciclismo in rosa.

Before the race on Sunday, I was glad to see my former teammate Deborah from Fenixs, whom i hadn’t seen for years, and also both my sportsdirector and manager from Team Pratomagno Women Ilio Donnini and Giancarlo Montedori. They all made tiffosi for me on the course and made me feel like I was at home.

Grazie a tutti I miei amici italiani per il loro sopporto !

The fast sandy course with a lot of turns (without a dangerous part) suited me very well, but I still was a bit anxious before the start. I started last line and, as usual, I had a catastrophic start, I then was blocked behind a few girls who left gaps and had to struggle to get back to two Italian girls in front of me.  As the race went on, kept feeling better and managed to finish 27th (passing the line together with Francesca Cauz 26th). With a better start I could’ve made a better result still. Anyway, this race was an exceptionnal experience and I enjoyed every minute of it and thank all my helpers and « tiffosi » .

Finally, I don’t want to forget to congratulate a good friend of my daughter and her boyfriend, Julian Alaphilippe, for his exceptionnal race and performance!

Now I hope to «deliver» a good performance at the nationals on Sunday and also at the next worldcup in Hoogerheide !
