Cyclo-Cross Rumelange (LUX), 22nd december 2013

My new glasses from Oakley arrived just in time for the muddy race in Rumelange.  Happy to say that they successfully passed the test! The only thing missing were windscreen-wipers, after three laps I had a lot of mudspots on the glasses…

I started in the last positions, whereas Lise-Marie Henzelin from Switzerland was in the first line. Shouldn’t have been a problem, but some of the boys caused two crashes in the slippery field just after the start line and I was caught in the first and stopped by the second. Lise-Marie passed without problems and had a few hundred meters advance on me, but these few meters turned out to be decisive for the final result. After being blocked in the slippery turns behind some of the weaker boys, I was on my own on the long roadpart in slight uphill against strong wind, Lise-Marie was lucky to have two boys leading her out in that part, protecting her from the wind. After the first lap, I was around 50 seconds behind her, struggled back in lap two to only 25 seconds, but lost precious time in the next lap. By that time I knew that the win was out of reach for me and I didn’t really manage to motivate myself enough to resist. I finished more than 1 minute behind her.

Anyway I’m happy I had a really good training-race before the worldcup in Zolder on Thursday, where I’ll have to fight to survive in the lap !
