World-Cup in Zolder (BEL), 26th December 2013

I loved the lap but still did the worst race of the past few weeks ! After a quite good start (given the fact that I had to stand far behind on the starting grid) I completely missed the first turn, then struggled through the pits (where there was a huge “traffic jam”) and found myself last position. First bummer! I then caught back the riders in front of me, but in the descent from the « chapel-hill » my chain fell off the big ring and somehow rolled itself around the pedal, so that I had to get off the bike to fix it. Second bummer.

Nevertheless, I fought myself back to these riders yet again, but just as I caught up, my chain refused to get off the big ring in the technical part after the first pits and, you guessed it, I lost a few more meters. It destroyed the last spark of hope I still had: I kept fighting but without any conviction and without all the cheers around the lap, I think that I would have stopped before being taken out of the race one lap from the end.

A race to forget, afterwards I was so depressed that I considered stopping the season, but there are some nice races with my daughter Trixy coming up and I wouldn’t miss them for the world!
