UCI race "Erondegemse Pijl" cat1.2, (BEL) August 3rd 2013

Third UCI-race of this season. Before the start, I had absolutely no idea about where I was situated on the international level and if I was still able to follow on this level.

The girls seemed very impatient to start, the first lined up 20’ before the départ fictif!, so when I arrived some 5’ before, I had to stand in the last positions. Which was not good (or so I thought at the beginning) but eventually it showed that this wasn’t so bad as there was a crash in the first part of the bunch after some 5km  when I was still slowly moving up to the front. I had to get around the girls that crashed and tried to help my daughter in chasing back to the first part which continued to ride very hard in front. But unfortunately Trixy didn’t manage to stay in the wheels, so I had to leave her and followed a great number of riders chasing back.

The race stayed very fast and hard, making a natural selection of riders that couldn’t follow anymore. Another crash happened right in front of me, but again I just had to step off and didn’t fall. I then had to catch back the first bunch, which I succeeded to do quite easily ( seems my form is improving as the season goes on). When we reached the final circuit (to do 8 times), I felt quite confident to reach my aim to finish the race in the main bunch. After two more crashes where I had to stop but didn’t fall, we attacked the final lap with a grouped bunch and headed for a massive sprint.

Seen the tortous road in the last km and a very tricky last turn, I was glad to see the finish without crash and in the same time as the second (the winner from Sengers had about 30’’ advantage). Even if a better classification was possible, I’m satisfied with my result.
