Cyclo-Cross Bridiers-La Souterraine (FRA), 30.11.13

The hardest one so far.

This cyclo-cross was the physically hardest one I had to do so far this season (might be topped by Diegem though...). It wasn't really technical, rather not at all, but the lap was very long, with a steep uphill to the ruins of a castle (no breath to admire the scenery) and a long long slight uphill with twists and turns in a very muddy field. Mud-tastic reloaded.

Again the start wasn't a start, they just said "go" and while I was in first place during most of the road-part (long one), Audrey Menut (former french champion, finished 4th overall in the second Manche de France in Quelneuc) passed me in the first downhill. I managed to stay with her during half of the first lap but broke down a bit and lost contact. In the end, I struggled all alone for most of the race. All the girls (4 on the start) were doubled by the first juniors and I finished second girl and 15th overall behind Audrey (12th overall). I wasn't at my best, but they told me that I hadn't been ridiculous, so I'm fine with the result. Very tough one for sure, I hadn't expected it to be so hard.

I don't have any pictures of me during the race, so I settled on a picture of the uphill to the ruins of the castle.
