Superprestige Diegem (BEL), 29.12.13

Time to put my Christmas present to the test...

Last year, I was down with the stomach-flu and couldn't take the start in Diegem, so I needed to take revenge and try again this year! The lap is lovely, but muddy and physical. It was the first time I took my new Guerciotti bike (in bella Italia colors) for a race and I have to say, it is just as beautiful to ride as it is to look at. Best Christmas present ever!
I had a good start (I was one of the last girls on the starting grid) and, unlike my mom, I didn't mind the pulling and pushing in the first muddy run-part (where the pits used to be). I got to a better position and even stayed in front of my mom for half a lap (which had been impossible for me last year!) before she passed me in the uphill. Still lacking strength...

When I crossed the finish-line for the first time and they announced that there were three more laps, I knew that I could finish without being lapped and so I gave it my best shot. I managed to keep the riders behind me at distance and finally finished 29th out of 37 riders.

My mom was happy for me, but I was very happy for her because she finally enjoyed herself again on the bike instead of dreading it! The only downer for me was that Josselin couldn't come, he had loved the race last year and would've loved to participate again this year, but unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. So I rode for him too, and I think that it made me ride a tad bit faster.
