Cyclo-Cross Dompierre-sur-Besbre (FRA), 11.11.12

Second time I had to quit this season...

I had done this one last year, again with the juniors. I had had trouble with one downhill (again inclined slopes, which are very steep in Dompierre), this year I managed to face my fear and stay on the bike instead of running down. This counts as a success. Unfortunatly, the lap was a lot muddier than last year and the only tyres I had were slick tubulars.

Not the kind you want to have on your bike in muddy inclined parts. So after 2 laps and a half, I quit the race, seeing that I really couldn't race like I wanted to, there was no way of putting any pressure on my wheels without falling. Maybe I was wrong for quitting, but I was so far behind, I had to race without forcing, I wasn't even breathing fast! It must have looked like I was a tourist... So I stopped, not seeing the point of falling all the time and losing more and more time because of my wheels.

Sure, I wouldn't have done an amazing race with rhino tubulars, but I most certainly could've done more and especially ENJOY myself, instead of being frustrated because I couldn't even turn properly in the mud. I love cyclo-cross, but if you can't even use your technique and you look like it's your first ever cross, it's just not fun at all.
