Cyclo-Cross Commentry (FRA), 25.11.12

It all began with a crash...

Yes, it did. I started in the third row, my start was ok but not brilliant. The problem is that a lot of Senior racers have strength, but no technique and they just disturb others. Eventually, what had to happen, did happen: one of those guys fell in a downhill just in front of me. There was just no way to avoid him, so I fell over him and the riders behind us passed me. Bonus: my chain had fallen off and so I lost even more precious seconds trying to get it on again. Needless to say that I was fuming and I spent the rest of the race in a mad chase of everyone in front of me. I think that this was one of the few races where I went beyond my limits, I felt really ill during a big part of the race but kept going anyway. I just couldn't bear the thought of finishing last like that! So I caught back the guy that made me fall, some others and then the second girl. She stayed in my wheels for a lap, I finally then managed to shake her off. Josselin told me after the race that I was about 500m away from the winner in the female category, which wasn't much compared to the gap that I had to begin with after my crash. So I'm quite happy, I managed to go beyond my pain and actually enjoyed myself, since the lap was quite nice (my mom would've loved it). Josselin finished at a nice 5th place, after a very good race. Florian for his part had bad luck in the first lap, he had 2 punchers in a row, front and back wheel (he doesn't have tubulars like we do), but fought himself back courageously.
