Nationals Dippach (LUX), 22.06.13

Yes...but no.

A race and a day to forget. On Thursday, everything had looked well, I was feeling good, the climb felt easy, the sun was shining and I was motivated to help my mother get on that podium on Saturday.
The day came and the legs were gone with the sun. We started under grey sky and an annoying wind blew from the west. As we thought, Christine Majerus attacked right at the beginning of the climb in the first lap. But sadly none of us managed to follow her, and my mom and I helplessly watched Chantal Hoffmann and Nathalie Lamborelle take Christines wheel and get away with her. In the first lap, the gap was still manageable but since we were only 3 riders working (all the juniors and under 17 girls not being interested in helping) it quickly grew bigger until there was no hope left.
I was so angry at myself for letting that happen, for having a bad day, for being useless that I simply stopped at the end of the third lap. I had enough of a race that wasn't really one (I mean, come on, 15 riders for a nationals race is a bit silly), enough of this weird kind of racing, enough of my legs backing out on me. I will just have to let it be and move on.
